There are different ways that you can go, but the two most commonly are DJ or a North East Wedding Band .

Live music is preferable because it really can add so much to your event. But what things do you need to look at when hiring a live band?

The first step to choosing a band that the guests will really enjoy so why not ask some of your guests what type of music they want?

Many event coordinators forget to do this and book up a band that appeals to them personally. Remember it is the guests' views that are important.

An important thing that you should do when you are looking for a wedding band is to try to catch them performing. In general most bands typically have public gigs outside of private events so check with them on these so that you can try to take in a performance.

If you can't catch them live then ask them if they have a demo CD or preferably a video for you to take a look at. This will give you a good idea of the suitability of the band for your own event.

It is important to know how good the band actually are. How professional are they? How long have they been together as a group?

Most bands have individual and group biographies on their website. This will give you an idea of the calibre of the party band as a whole.

Going to the potential wedding bands website really is the best place to start to see their photos, videos, and listen to their musical tracks.

Hip Operation are a top North East wedding band who play parties and corporate events. They come highly recommended,a good place to start your enquiries.

Hopefully you should be able to find some testimonials on their website. This will show you how much their previous customers enjoyed their music. Also see if you can find the bands repertoire; make sure that the songs they play are what you want.

Look for a band that plays music that will probably have a wide appeal and be enjoyable for many of the guests. For example, heavy metal or progressive jazz only appeal to some people and could be a little limited for the guests who will be at the wedding you're planning. Music like 70's soul or disco seems to appeal to most age groups.

Once you have accepted their terms it ask for it to be put down in writing.

It is also very standard that you will need to put in a non refundable deposit when you submit your contract so that the date of your event can be secured.

As the date of the event gets closer, call the band to confirm the last minute details. If you are concerned about what they will be wearing for example, then discuss this with them. Make sure they know what time they are expected to arrive.

Remember, there's a good chance your band has travelled a substantial distance to play at your event, so it's courteous to give them a meal.

You should also give the wedding party band an idea of what will be happening over the course of the evening so that they will know in advance approximately what times they will be performing and what to expect.
